Kennedy Associates Architects is an architectural practice based in Annandale, Sydney. The practice was formed in 1994 by Steve Kennedy, the principal of the firm. The firm currently employs 10 people.

Our reputation is based primarily on three strands of out work:
- the residential projects we have designed throughout Sydney.
- our institutional and community projects
- our urban design and environmental expertise

Kennedy Associates’ reputation is based on its rigour, thoroughness and professionalism.

The firm’s philosophy is based on the exploration and understanding of contemporary architectural issues within a modernist language. We are a high quality design based form, which places significant emphasis on our ability to assess and respond to the urban design, environmental, cultural, programmatic and aesthetic issues of each project.

Whether it be our numerous residential projects, the Fry Street development for Willoughby City Council, The Savoy Hotel Double Bay, Randwick Private Hospital, Temple Emanuel Woollahra or the new Child Care Centre for Ashfield Baptist Church, our clients and their builders have found our work to be of the highest standard.

Fundamental to our practice is the considerable emphasis we place on several aspects of the design process. In particular, the emphasis we place on the rigorous examination of the specific programmatic issues affecting each project, and the consequent preparation and critiquing of a range of design options for each project.

The core word in our office is ’beauty.’ We see architecture as the pursuit of beauty in the full depth of meaning of the word. That is, the achievement of buildings which not only meet their physical and financial requirements but also provide places which influence and enhance the lives of their users and contribute meaningfully to the progression of our cultural development.

Of equal importance to our focus on the pragmatic and aesthetic issues of our projects, is our commitment to the broader issues of urban planning and ecological sustainability within the urban context.

We believe that good architecture only derives from an understanding and commitment to the principles of urban design and sustainability.

In particular we believe that sustainability, the concern for making societies, buildings and environments which are both socially and ecologically responsible, is not recognized as not only one of the fundamental factors in city planning but also one of the guiding principles for the design of all architectural projects.

We believe that our homes and neighborhoods should be healthy, vibrant places that uplift the spirit and gracefully fit our needs. We call for an end to poor construction, bad design, misleading marketing, unfair lending practices and environmental neglect in the housing industry. We acknowledge our collective responsibility to create CLOSE, SIMPLE, LIGHT places to live that leave a positive legacy for future generations.

SLOW HOME is an international movement devoted to bringing good design into real life. It takes its name from the slow food movement which arose as a reaction to the processed food industry. The sprawl of cookie cutter housing that surrounds us is like fast food - standardized, homogenous, and wasteful. It contributes to a too fast life that is bad for us, our cities, and the environment. In the same way that slow food raises awareness of the food we eat and how these choices affect our lives, Slow Home provides design focused information to empower each of us to take more control of our homes and improve the quality of where and how we live.
